Tips for Driving More Efficiently

Fiat vehicles are known for being stylish, agile, and fun, but they’re also famous the world over for their efficiency. If you’re a Fiat driver, fuel economy is probably one of the many points of pride you cite when telling friends about your vehicle. But what if we told you you might not even be getting the most out of your Fiat’s stellar mpg rating? Today, we’re going to share some of our top tips for driving more efficiently. Saving on gas is great –  saving even more? Who can complain, especially when it’s this easy? Read on for details:

Keeping your tires inflated properly and in good condition is good on gas, as well.

Leave early. How can leaving the house early help you save on gas? It’s simple: When you’re in a hurry, you’re more likely to step on the gas, brake hastily, and just generally drive worse than you do when you’re relaxed and have time on your side. So, if you’re able to get into the habit of leaving a little early –  and certainly there are even more benefits than what we name here –  the better your fuel economy numbers should be in the long run.
Use that cruise. When you’re on the highway –  maybe on that summer road trip you’ve been planning –  using your car’s cruise function can help you maintain a consistent speed throughout this stretch of your journey, which can cut fuel costs –  as long as you’re maintaining a speed at or below 65, that is –  anything over that and you’re steadily sucking down fuel at an accelerated rate (not to mention that whole “It’s the law” thing).

Park smarter. Yes, the coveted perfect parking spot is definitely a pet obsession for some of us. Whether it’s you or someone you know, you’ve been in a car that endlessly circles the lot like a bird of prey waiting to descend. Trust us –  it’s not worth it. In addition to the extra time it takes up, all that slowing and stopping and starting and tooling around not only irritates your passengers, but it’s hard on your fuel supply, too! So park in an open spot (pull-through when possible to avoid the stop-start of backing!) and hoof it inside. It won’t kill you!
