2017 Winter Driving Tips

  • Check the weather. Winter weather can be unpredictable, so make sure you are checking to see if the weather is clear before hitting the road!
  • Get your vehicle checked out. Making sure your vehicle is in tip top shape before the bitter cold of winter hits can help you avoid breaking down on the side of the road or being unable to start your vehicle. If you are in need of service, bring your vehicle in to Palmen Fiat for service!
  • Pack an emergency car kit. Be sure to include winter-related items like a blanket, hat, gloves, jacket, socks, boots, and a shovel.
  • Keep your gas tank at least half full. This will help you avoid your gas line freezing and creating condensation.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to accelerate and brake. When you are accelerating, it can take your vehicle longer to gain traction on the road, so make sure you are going slow to allow your wheels time to grab onto the road.
  • Similarly, when you are braking, you are more likely to slip and skid on the snow-covered or icy roads. Allow yourself ample time to slow down and come to a stop to avoid collisions. A good rule of thumb to follow is to make sure you can see the tires of the vehicle in front of you when you reach a complete stop.

Following these tips will help you stay safe on the road. For all of your automotive needs, come to Palmen Fiat!
