Is Fiat an American company?

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: Is It American-Made?

Here at Palmen Fiat in Kenosha, WI, we get a question all the time: “is Fiat American?” Most people guess that it isn’t, but since the late 2000s, Fiat has been merged with Chrysler. So what gives?

Is Fiat an American company or not? That’s both an easy and tough question to answer. Let’s take a look.

FCA…

The simple, unhelpful answer is…yes and no. Here’s the long answer. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, known widely as FCA, was an Italian-American conglomerate. In layman’s terms, that means it was multiple companies merged into one. FCA owned and produced popular Italian brands like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati, alongside well-known American brands like Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram.

…Stellantis

In May 2021, however, FCA officially merged with PSA Group (a French company that produced Peugeot and Citroën) to form Stellantis, a company in the Netherlands. Technically, Fiat vehicles and Ram vehicles (and all those other brands, too) are now Dutch as a result. And if we’re counting where those vehicles are produced, then most Fiat models aren’t Dutch, Italian, or American; they’re Brazilian and Mexican.

But are Any Fiat Models that are Made in America?!

While most Fiat models are not produced in the US, but rather in Mexico, Brazil, and other Latin and South American countries, there are a few models that are produced here in the States. The Fiat Ducato and Fiat Doblò are both produced and sold in America, but we know them as the Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City work vans.
