Tips for Using Less Gas

Summer trips can cost quite a few bucks when it comes to gasoline. Filling up that tank can be painful for those on a tight budget and so we are here to offer tips for using less gasoline when you drive. It might not transform your has guzzler into a fuel efficient hybrid, but it can lead to a better overall fuel use and might even decrease stress from having to spend less money on fuel this summer.
Cars today have truly impressive engines, capable of traveling great distances without using nearly as much fuel as was necessary only a decade ago. Many of us can’t afford to go pick up the latest model, but we can take a little time to drive in a more fuel-friendly way to save money.

1. Regular Maintenance is Important: Getting that oil change, tire rotation, transmission flush… All these things together make a vehicle run better and can have an impact on the miles per gallon, even in an older vehicle.
2. Use Brakes Less: Braking all the time has a negative impact on your fuel economy. Try driving a safe distance behind other vehicles so that their change in speed doesn’t force you to use your brakes. It might save you a few bucks down the road!
3. Avoid Traffic: We all hate traffic. This is common amongst the daily commuters out there who ave to drive into a bigger city, but if you get up earlier and leave before the heavy traffic sets in, your smoother drive might result in a more fuel efficient ride to work. Saving money for a little sacrifice of sleep, totally worth it.
4. Don’t Accelerate Like You are 16: What we mean here, is that you should accelerate smoothly. Squealing the tires or taking off ahead of the pack at every red light can cost you in fuel.

While none of these tips were probably surprising, it’s important to remember that simply doing one of these will not have a big impact on your fuel spending at the pump.
