What car noises need to be fixed right away?

We drive vehicles that have hundreds of small parts that work together to get us where we need to go. Not many of us spend much time thinking about all these small parts, but it cannot be ignored when one of them stops doing their job. Listening for differences and problems when a car is running can be a great way to tell if something isn’t working. What car noises need to be fixed right away? All vehicles make their own noises and not all of them are bad. However, there are a few that can lead to bigger problems down the road. Head to the service center if you notice any of the following:

Is your car making sound when you round a corner? If so, you might have an issue with your steering linkage. Lube it up or get it checked. Replacement can be pricey.
Do you hear any clunks when you brake? There is definitely something missing, damaged, or wrongly mounted in your brake system. It’s not worth a risk with brakes!
Any Flapping noises from under the hood? One of the many belts in there might be falling apart. Otherwise something might be in the way of your fan. Belts and your fan are both very important!
Is your engine making hissing or sizzling sounds when you turn it off? This most likely means that there is some sort of liquid leaking onto the engine. It could be oil, coolant, any part of the vacuum line. On top of that, your engine could be overheating.
Hear a loud bang like a stick of water dynamite is in your tailpipe? This is called a backfire and it means that the air-fuel mixture is off. It also might mean your catalytic converter isn’t doing it’s job.
Do you hear roaring that gets louder as you speed up? This is either your exhaust system or your transmission isn’t shifting gears properly. If you drive a manual, your clutch could be slipping!
Does it sound like gravel when you apply the brakes? This usually means that your brake pads are completely worn down. It is VERY important that you get this fixed and quick! You are damaging your rotors with every stop.

So, those are some common sounds that can be bad news. Basically, any questionable engine or vehicle sounds are worth giving the experts a call.
