This concept car, developed by Fiat designers in the 70’s is a lot like the small economical cars that we see on the road today. With an interesting name to go along with its unique appearance, the X1/23 never went into production, as it was considered to be too crazy and the current electric vehicle technology wasn’t up to par.

It’s electric battery is said to have been able to propel the vehicle at a speed of 45 mph and the charge had a range of approximately 55 miles. While we are able to create batteries that move cars much more quickly and much longer distances now, vehicles are completely different creatures these days. Back when this concept car was being designed, vehicles were nowhere near the efficient and economical machines that they are today.

Small cars that are rolling out of dealership lots today like the Honda Fit, and the Fiat 500x, may have a more modern appearance, but there is no denying the similarity to the 1972 Fiat X1/23 when comparing it to vehicles of its time. The compact space and unique styling made it a truly unique show piece back in the day, but today we would not think twice about the possibility of its existence as a working car today.
