Icy windshield? No problem.

How to de-ice your windshield quickly

In a perfect world, we’d all have temperature-controlled indoor parking all winter along, day and night, at work and at home. The reality for most of us, however, is that we are frequently faced with parking conditions that require exposing our vehicles to the elements — namely, snow and ice. If you’re regularly parking outdoors in the winter, these tips for how to de-ice your windshield quickly and with efficiency will make your day-to-day life just a little bit easier during these cold winter months.
What you’ll need: The basics are gloves and a good plastic scraper. Some scrapers come with a brush and others don’t, but we’d highly recommend throwing in a little more for one with a nice brush on it since in many cases there will be plenty of snow on top of the ice that you’ll need to remove prior to scraping. As for the gloves, aim for a pair that’s not too thin, porous, or short on  your wrist — you kind of defeat the purpose if snow can get inside.
To get started, just scratch over the surface of the ice without digging. In most cases you won’t need much pressure to get it off. If it is a particularly heavy layer, continue to scratch down gently – once you’ve made it down to the glass in one area it will come off easier elsewhere.

Clean around base of wiper blades, slowly chipping away at built-up ice. Pick up the blade and tap it off gently on the windshield to remove excess ice. Making sure your wipers aren’t iced down is a crucial step, or you could damage the motor while trying to use them on the road.
If your blades need to be replaced or you think you have damaged the wiper motor in any way, feel free to bring your car in to us here at our service center and we’ll have a look for you.
